California’s Community Health Centers are Meeting the Moment! 2022 Annual Conference Recap:
California Primary Care Association (CPCA) hosted our first in-person Annual Conference since 2019 on October 27-28, 2022 in Sacramento, CA! It was wonderful to finally convene face-to-face and learn of the myriad of ways that our member health centers are meeting the moment and moving toward achieving healthy, just and equitable communities.
The two-day conference kicked off Thursday morning with a beautiful, moving land acknowledgment ceremony by members of the Wilton Band of Miwok Indians. CPCA’s President and CEO, Francisco J. Silva Esq., then provided opening remarks, highlighted the many accomplishments of California’s health centers and their workforce in meeting the moment to address the state’s public health needs during the biggest health crisis of the century, discussed his vision for the Association’s future, and the importance of having a unified voice in advocating for the needs of health center patients. Immediately following was the presentation of this year’s Hero Awards. Congratulations to our 2022 Hero Awardees!
After the opening awards session, attendees had the opportunity to choose from a variety of breakout sessions focused on topics such as Policy and Advocacy, Clinical and Care Innovations, Business Innovations, and Strategic Leadership. At Thursday’s lunch session, we had the honor of hearing important and timely state updates from California’s Surgeon General, Dr. Diana Ramos, MD, MPH, MBA, FACOG!
We also recognized this year’s Clinic Legacy Awardees for their strong leadership and commitment to the community health center movement. Congratulations to the following Clinic Legacy Awardees!

Thursday evening’s Tradeshow Reception in the “Wellness Spa Oasis” was the perfect place to recharge and renew after a day packed full of engaging content. With chair massage therapists on hand, smiles abounded as attendees had the chance to visit our sponsors and exhibitors and network with their peers. Many attendees participated in Exhibitor Bingo and five lucky winners walked away with prizes at our Friday prize drawing!
While networking in the tradeshow, attendees voted for their favorite exhibitor booths in the conference app. It was exciting to see our exhibitors embrace the “Wellness Spa Oasis” theme. Congratulations to the following winners!

The final day of the conference offered even more valuable educational opportunities, including the ever-popular “mini-sessions.” The conference came to a close with a presentation by keynote speaker Dr. Esther Choo, MD, MPH, who spoke about advancing equity in the healthcare workforce, a topic that is critical to advancing the mission of community health centers.
Thank you to the attendees, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors who made CPCA’s 2022 Annual Conference a great success. We look forward to seeing you next year!
