Successfully Educating and Training CHCs During the Pandemic

Key Highlights From 3 Successful Virtual Trainings

In the first quarter of this year, CPCA hosted targeted trainings for health center staff in three key areas: Workforce, Compliance, and Emergency Preparedness. Each Symposium brought together health center peers and experts to share strategies and best practices through an online learning opportunity. Attendees participated in peer led discussion forums, could browse a resource library, and attend expert webinars throughout the week in the CPCA Training Portal, including 30 days of access to all content after the event. Learn more about these popular annual trainings which will be offered again in 2022!

CPCA’s Inaugural Workforce Symposium was held on January 25 – 27, 2021, supported by Direct Relief. This online event welcomed 175 health center leaders and staff from across the state. As a virtual event, nearly a dozen other Primary Care Associations and national partners were able to participate. CPCA staff led collaborations with several other organizations to deliver this training, including: Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO); Association of Clinicians for the Underserved; Clinica Sierra Vista; CommuniCare Health Centers; Community Health Center, Inc.; George Washington University; HealthNet; The National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center; Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center; WellSpace Health.

The 2nd Annual Health Center Compliance Symposium was held on February 1-3, 2021, drawing over 200 health center leaders and staff for this virtual learning opportunity. This successful event was sponsored by Compliatric, and CPCA staff collaborated with expert presenters from other organizations including: Axis Community Health, Asian Health Services, DJR Health Law & Consulting; HealthRight360; the Federal Tort Claims Act Division (FTCA), and Western Sierra Medical Clinic. As a certified learning opportunity with the Compliance Certification Board, this training offered up to 9.9 Continuing Education Units!

In late March, CPCA hosted the annual Emergency Preparedness Symposium, sponsored by Direct Relief. Like CPCA’s other virtual trainings, this event was hosted in our online training portal, featuring 3 days (and recorded access for a month!) of content for emergency management staff from health centers across the state. The first 100 attendees received a gift from CPCA to thank them for their hard work this year. Over 230 individuals logged in from across California to learn from experts from ASPR TRACIE, the California Department of Public Health; Constant & Associates, the Department of Consumer Affairs; Direct Relief, Health Center Partners of Southern California, The Joint Commission, Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers; Mendocino Community Health Clinic; and Northeast Valley Health Corporation.

Between January – March 2021, over 675 health center staff participated in these key trainings on topics requested by our members. CPCA plans to deliver these trainings again in 2022 and we look forward to seeing you there!

Virtual 2021 CPCA Boutique Conferences: Quality & Technology Conference and Financial Conference for CFOs and Billing Managers

The virtual Quality & Technology Conference was hosted in our online training portal in February 2021. This conference brought together clinicians, quality directors, chief medical officers, EHR staff and chief information officers to learn and share best practices around quality improvement as well as the strategic application of technology and health information technology in health centers. CPCA staff introduced new networking opportunities at this virtual conference through “the Kitchen”, a casual space to connect online, interactive shared whiteboards, and a “Just for fun” section with bonus content. Attendees who visited the tradeshow were entered to win some great prizes, such as an Oculus VR Headset or hundreds of dollars in gift cards. Thank you for attending!

In May 2021, CPCA hosted the virtual Financial Conference. This online event featured a track for billing managers as well as a track for CFOs, though everyone had access to all content at this event – a perk of virtual delivery! Through live and on demand sessions, attendees learned about diverse finance topics such as telehealth billing, protecting revenue, operational and financial resiliency, finance implications from COVID-19, and much more. Attendees again had a chance to visit with exhibitors in our virtual tradeshow, earning badges as they worked their way through the virtual booths. As will all CPCA virtual conferences, this content is available to attendees for 30 days post-event to allow more flexibility during these busy times.
