Revolutionizing Healthcare: Highlights from CPCA's 2023 Quality & Technology Conference

The California Primary Care Association (CPCA) hosted the 2023 Quality & Technology Conference on March 2-3 in Santa Rosa, CA. Nearly 250 community health center (CHC) professionals gathered at the Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country to discuss the latest trends in healthcare technology and quality improvement initiatives. This was our first in-person Quality & Technology Conference since 2020…it was great to be back!

A Focus on Innovation

The conference kicked off on Thursday, March 2 with a welcome address from CPCA’s President and CEO, Francisco J. Silva, Esq. The first keynote session, presented by Aditya Bansod, Co-Founder and CEO of Luma Health, focused on using innovative digital front doors to make healthcare more accessible and patient-oriented. Bansod provided valuable insights from CHCs that have successfully implemented digital patient services and how they have achieved a competitive advantage.

Breakout Sessions Offering a Variety of Learning Opportunities

Participants then attended breakout sessions that covered a wide range of topics, including teen patient portal privacy, leveraging EHR technology for pay-for-performance goals, and aligning quality incentive plans with value-based care. Speakers shared their experiences, best practices, and lessons learned to help others navigate the complex landscape of healthcare quality and technology.

Exploring New Frameworks and Strategies

One notable session was "California Data Exchange Framework: Policy Barriers and Key Considerations for Implementation." Panelists discussed the challenges in implementing the framework, which aims to enable secure, real-time data exchange among health and social care organizations. The session highlighted policy barriers, opportunities, and key considerations for organizations preparing to adopt the framework.

On the second day of the conference, Dr. Robert Moore, Chief Medical Officer at Partnership Health Plan, discussed a new framework for continuous learning called the Pathway to Excellence. The framework addresses the limitations of traditional quality improvement tools and offers insights into making health center quality initiatives more effective.

The day continued with more breakout sessions that explored important topics such as Medi-Cal re-enrollment processes, remote patient monitoring programs, closing language disparities in breast cancer prevention, and the California Social Health Network. Attendees learned about innovative strategies and collaborative efforts aimed at improving healthcare quality and outcomes.

Discussing Hot Topics and Networking with Peers

The conference concluded with an insightful session on the role of quality in the Alternative Payment Methodology (APM) in California. Health centers that have submitted Letters of Interest to the state presented their experiences and strategies for incorporating quality measures into the APM.

Throughout the conference, participants had the opportunity to network with exhibitors and fellow attendees, sharing ideas and learning about new products and services in the healthcare industry.

The 2023 Quality & Technology Conference provided a valuable platform for health center professionals to discuss the latest advancements in quality improvement and technology. The event showcased the growing importance of patient-centered care, data-driven decision-making, and collaboration among healthcare organizations in California.
