Leadership Equity Program - Launching in Early 2022!
CPCA will launch the inaugural Leadership Equity Program (LEP) cohort at the end of January 2022. The program offers both a cohort-based program for participating emerging leaders as well as capacity-building for their respective community health center (CHC) organizations - to achieve our vision to collectively strengthen community health centers' capacity to achieve just, healthy and equitable communities across California.
In October 2021, The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of California, announced its commitment to provide funding for CPCA's Leadership Equity Program (LEP) as part of the broader California Equity and Accessibility Initiative to advance health equity throughout the state.
CPCA will be working with two exceptional and passionate consulting teams: Mmapeu Consulting and WE in the World, who will be leading the design, development and implementation of the program curriculum and community well-being capstone.
Mmapeu Consulting was contracted as the LEP Curriculum delivery partner to support the development and implementation of the LEP curriculum for the inaugural LEP cohort. Mmapeu Consulting is a Black/African-American woman-owned national consulting firm that has worked with over 11,750 organizations and individuals on strategy, culture transformation, program design, and leadership development issues. Mmapeu Consulting is led by Dr. Diane J. Johnson, who has almost 30 years of experience in the business, public, and social sectors in many roles, including change management consultant, trainer and executive coach, program director, evaluator, and researcher and organizational culture specialist.
Well-being and Equity in the World (WE in the World) brings expertise to advancing community well-being, antiracism, health equity, and system change to the LEP Community Well-being Capstone. WE in the World is a BIPOC-led organization that offers over a decade of experience applying a multi-sector population health approach with an equity lens to improving the health and well-being of people. WE in the World is led by Dr. Somava Saha, who brings over 25 years of experience to advancing equity around the world. Dr. Saha has led award-winning transformations in safety-net health systems in the United States at Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Medical School.
Beginning in 2022, approximately 25 participants will engage in dynamic leadership training, including interactive in-person and virtual sessions, executive coaching, peer-to-peer learning, and a capstone project. The program curriculum is comprised of the following core areas:
Antiracism & Racial Equity - Participants will become familiar with race equity theory & history, examine current trends and impact on healthcare models and delivery, explore implications of implicit biases and structural racism, and strengthen their capacity to implement antiracist policies and practices that mitigate racial health disparities for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.
Leadership Development - Participants will recognize the core tenets of Inclusive and Adaptive Leadership, examine personal biases, identify key traits of an effective leader, understand the importance of engaging authentically, and drive change and create an organizational culture of inclusion and belonging.
Health Center Operations and Facilities Management - Participants will develop leadership skills in human resources, operations, health information technology, and finance and payment reform to advance innovation and person-centered, value-based, and population-based approaches to care delivery, centered on the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Community Well-being - Participants will develop a capstone project that addresses their organizational and community needs and leadership goals; apply their learning and understanding of using data, policies, and community voice for leadership decision-making; and build a balanced strategy to address equity and advance well-being for their surrounding communities.
The capacity-building design will support participating CHCs to advance emerging C-suite leaders and expand organizational innovations and place-based strategies centered on antiracism, health equity, and community well-being.
